Catania is a city in prayer, by the will of the Archdiocese which — with the blessing of the Holy See — declared an Agatine Jubilee, culminating in the arrival of the precious veil, kept since 1926 in a reliquary of chased silver
According to tradition, the garment covered the Saint during her martyrdom and on more than one occasion has stopped the lava of Etna threatening the city. A symbol of strength, resistance and rebirth that lies at the heart of the project «Tu sei Agata» conceived by the artist Domenico Pellegrino.
Anyone, by donating an embroidery or a doily, may take part in this artistic and communal gesture — the creation of a single great veil one kilometre long, hand-sewn by many Catanian volunteers — which will be carried in procession on 17 August, on the feast day of the saint.
